L Murbandono Hs highlights nine principles of pluralism that he argues require much work if Indonesia’s ‘Unity in Diversity’ (Bhinneka Tunggal Ika) is to move from being an ethereal slogan to a living reality. These principles include the need for deep knowledge and active engagement, and for the space for each Indonesian to ‘come and be yourself, contributing in your distinctive way to the “orchestra” of the Indonesian civilization symphony!’
