Strengthening Understandings of Religion and Multiculturalism Amongst Pesantren Leaders (Evaluation) Print
Group Photo of Participants and ICIP StaffThe International Centre for Islam and Pluralism (ICIP) in cooperation with Aus AID held an Evaluation and Reflection workshop on the recent "Strengthening Understandings of Religion and Multiculturalism" program (see previous news) from August 14-15, 2006 at Hotel Bumi Wiyata, Depok. This seminar featured a brief panel discussion with Dr. Moeslim Abdurrahman and Maria Ulfah recapping the main issues discussed throughout the training activities, and an evaluation of the program by Utomo Dananjaya.

This workshop aimed to discuss the program as a whole, particularly with reference to evaluation forms filled out by participants, and how ICIP's future programs of a similar nature could be improved. A statistical breakdown of the comments from participants in evaluation forms was provided by the evaluator, Utomo Dananjaya. He concluded that responses to the program were overwhelmingly positive, with the vast majority of participants pleased with the implementation of and benefit gained from the program.

Following this, participants were invited to undertake a SWOT (Strength-Weakness-Opportunity-Threat) analysis of the application of training materials in their respective areas. This was based on their own experience, success and difficulties in attempting to apply the ideas learnt from previous training activities to their respective pesantren communities.

As the program reached its conclusion, ICIP offered to help facilitate a network between alumni of the training activities, so participants could remain in contact and discuss new issues as they arise, as well as to help interested participants apply for scholarships through AusAID.

The Director of ICIP Dr. Syafi'i Anwar closed the workshop by looking toward the future, with ICIP due to host another training workshop with pesantren in West Java on journalistic writing later in the year. He also took the opportunity to thank AusAID for their strong support throughout the program.

In the coming weeks ICIP will be posting a new edition of the icipglobal.org webjournal featuring papers presented by speakers throughout the training activities of this program, as well as interviews, book reviews and recent developments.
